Mechanical
Our engine now has a built 400 cubic inch ZS code Pontiac Engine with a Rochester Quadrajet carburetor on the stock factory four-barrel intake manifold that is painted factory Pontiac blue as well as the heads and block, aluminum heads, sits in a very clean and detailed engine compartment with the correct shaker hood scoop, chrome valve covers, air conditioning, and power steering and power disc brakes.
Backing our engine is a three-speed automatic transmission with power going back to the rear end and planted to the ground via the aluminum and gold painted Snowflake wheels with performance Fire Hawk Indy 500 raised white letter tires.
Interior
Our 1979 TA has a great tan cloth interior with twin bucket seats and matching rear seat, center console housing the 3-speed automatic shifter, tan simulated leather-wrapped Formula steering wheel, an engine-turned instrument panel inlay, the standard Rally Gauge cluster which included both a clock and tachometer, power windows, stereo system, gold carpet, floor mats, and air conditioning.
Exterior
Our ’79 model featured from Pontiac a freshly redesigned nose and tail sections, both molded from a new, softer plastic material, front and rear spoilers, and wheel opening spoilers, all covered in the sharp gold exterior paint.
The front end sports quad headlamps recessed into individual tunnels, while the blacked-out split grilles were repositioned below the lamps; turn signal/running lamps were recessed into the grilles.
The tail panel appeared to be one continuous blacked-out unit with the taillamp lenses flanking the centrally positioned fuel-filler door, cloaked in matching trim.
It has air extractors on the front fenders as they had since the ’70 model, with a large gold custom airbrushed Firebird on our TA’s hood.
