1968 Ford Galaxie XL Convertible
Why This Vehicle is Special
Ford advertised it had it all back in 1968, “Wide, sleek, distinctive, and plenty of V8 power”, this 1968 Ford Galaxie XL convertible ,with its Hide-Away” headlights, was the kind of car a lot of people dreamed of in a convertible.
Only about 6-thousand 1968 Galaxie 500 XL convertibles, like we have at Skyway Classics, were produced so this is truly a rare Ford.
Mechanical
Our 500 has a nicely painted and detailed 390 cubic inch engine 4-V with most correct factory parts like the blue painted chrome valve covers, intake, and complete air cleaner system. It also appears to have the factory carb, cast iron exhaust manifolds, power steering, and power brakes too.
It starts and runs well as Ford’s premium Galaxie 500 XL line was built for true cruisers and drives easy with the three-speed automatic transmission and rides on factory chrome wheels and white wall tires.
Interior
The interior has a full size bench seat in front and back upholstered in black with matching door panels, black carpeting and floor mats, factory steering wheel, dash, and gauges, including the radios.
The black convertible top contrasts the white paint of the body, and when you fold it back, the blue interior gives you the same level of appeal.
The trunk has a full-sized spare tire too.
Exterior
The Ford Galaxie XL convertible had a new and radical face for 1968 with a sporty look that had headlights hidden behind the full width grille that blended elegance and performance.
Ours has its white painted body that is nicely complemented by the wide chrome bumpers and stylish 15-inch factory-style wheel covers.
It also has great trim, center grille, stainless trim, Galaxie XL emblems, and chrome front and rear bumpers.
Conclusion
The 1968 Ford Galaxie XL Convertible we have here at Skyway Classics a large sedan with sporty lines that make its size look more like an intermediate and ours in its white livery and black convertible top, it makes a real classy statement.
The Ford Galaxie 500 we have here at Skyway Classics is an awesome entry-level hobby car that has a combination of style and ride and looks.
