1965 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible
Why This Car Is Special
America’s only true sports car, the Corvette, got subtle refinements in the body, but oh what a huge jump it made in performance, as it now came with the thumping L78 396 cubic inch engine putting out an advertised 425 horsepower under the hood.
We have a high quality restoration 1965 Corvette Roadster here at Skyway Classics that has that engine and a whole lot more too.
Mechanical
This Corvette just exudes performance from the minute you open the hood and see the Turbo-Jet 396 cubic inch engine with 425 horsepower in all its glory of which there were only 2,157 L78 examples produced in 1965.
It has the “porcupine” cylinder heads, an aggressive cam, chrome factory open air cleaner, plain factory orange painted valve covers, factory exhaust manifolds that flow into the throaty side-pipes, aluminum intake, Holley performance carb, shielded distributor, H.D. radiator, and backed by a Muncie 4-speed and a correctly restored chassis with all the right parts.
Interior
This Sting Ray offers a completely luxurious driving environment. For 1965, the interior features new trim of durable expanded vinyl with a more subtle texture in blue to match the body color.
It has individual twin bucket-type seats that have a factory bolster-like design for more seating comfort and better lateral support.
The blue theme extends to the carpet, door panels, and dual sun visors with controls for the outside-air-type heater and defroster located on the central console along with the electrical clock and radio controls and vent controls that are located under the instrument panel on each side of the steering column.
Matched speedometer and tachometer are the primary instruments in the Sting Ray with an electrical fuel gauge, electrical coolant temperature gauge, ammeter, and an oil pressure gauge.
A re-settable trip odometer, head-light switch, cigarette lighter, head-lamp retractor switch, hood release, and four-position ignition switch complete the instrument panel with the great factory wood steering wheel also.
Exterior
The styling changes on our 1965 Sting Ray are beautiful and ours is covered with its Nassau Blue paint job flowing over the scooped hood, louvers behind the front wheels that help increase air flow through the engine compartment, giving it both an aggressive and sophisticated look.
All the 396 emblems, the rear bumpers and taillights, door handles, the flip-up gas cap, and the white convertible top remain in as-new condition as well as the correct 15-inch cast aluminum wheels with the knock-off type hubs and whitewall tires which recreate the original look.
Conclusion
More than ever previously, the 1965 Corvette Roadster we have here at Skyway Classics is luxurious transportation for two, backed by the potent 425 horse engine will give you a different kind of driving experience than maybe you ever had.
In fact, this was one of the most potent cars on the street in 1965 of any brand and they are always climbing in value in the collector market.
