1965 White Ford Thunderbird
Why This Car Is Special
Ford’s Thunderbird went through a lot of changes through the years. From the small birds of the 50s to the Super and Turbo Coupes of the 80s. They have filled every need, be it a sports car, muscle car or luxury vehicle, and they have done it all well.
First designed to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette in the 2-seater roadster market, the 1965 White Ford Thunderbird we have here at Skyway Classics is a much larger, higher optioned big block cruiser than its predecessor.
The 300 horsepower 390 CID V8 engine still resides under the hood and is backed by an automatic transmission shifted on the column. It still sports the original gold factory paint on its correct factory air cleaner and valve covers, as well as the power steering and power brakes that are to be expected in a personal luxury vehicle.
It is a factory AC car and everything else appears to still be in place and it resides in a clean and factory original looking engine compartment too.
Our 1965 has a great turquoise interior makes you feel as if you’ve entered the cockpit of a futuristic vehicle and driving becomes your only mission. As you ease into the front bucket seats and secure the seat belts, every switch and button is right where it should be.
The wrap around back seat, floor console, the sweeping speedometer, chrome trim everywhere you look, and tilt away steering wheel surround you with comfort and style.
The options don’t stop there. It has power windows, power locks, remote mirror, radio, front disc brakes were added for 1965, which was much needed with the size and weight of these vehicles.
You can certainly feel a difference between a 1964 and a 1965 when it comes to braking abilities.
Ours is finished in the correct (according to the Trim Tag) shade of Wimbledon White on the exterior that really fits the lines of the fourth generation Thunderbird.
And it has one of the coolest features ever to be put on a vehicle, the sequential taillights that flash in a pattern from inside to outside pointing the way to your turn for the person behind you.
The 1965 Ford Thunderbird like the one we have here at Skyway Classics is a treasured American classic and this example highlights why.
