1960 Ford Thunderbird Custom
Why This Vehicle is Special
In 1960 Ford offered a sporty, but elegant Thunderbird example of what was referred to as a ”Square Bird.” We have one here at Skyway Classics that has custom paint, nice interior, and a clean smooth-running drivetrain.
Mechanical
Under the hood is a 352 cubic inch “Interceptor” V8 that sits in a very clean engine bay. It is topped with a single 4-barrel carburetor and what looks to be all the original parts like the chrome air cleaner and valve covers, factory cast iron intake and exhaust manifolds, and is backed up by a 3-speed Cruise-O-Matic automatic transmission and a Ford 9-inch rear.
It also has dual exhaust, red painted wheels with thin whitewall tires.
Interior
The tan interior consists of space age style front buckets, and a curving rear bench, brown center console, great dash and gauge cluster with s a dual eyebrow design in padded vinyl for the top, and ribbed aluminum for the gauge cluster and glovebox, AM radio.
It has the original white steering wheel in thin space age style, brown carpet, headliner, and curved door panels.
Exterior
Our TBird is painted in a red with tan accents with its dual eyebrow covered headlights, nice front grille, big chrome bumpers, dual headlights, and a scooped hood.
The chrome, glass and trim are also in very good to excellent as is the trunk compartment and chassis.
Conclusion
The four-seat 1960 Ford Thunderbird ”Square Bird” we have here at Skyway Classics is simply a masterpiece of design. It is a pleasure to drive and always attract a crowd wherever it goes, shows or on the street.
