1964 1/2 Ford Mustang Convertible

What Makes This Car Special

This 1964 ½ Mustang Convertible we have here at Skyway Classics is a nicely restored model with its stunning color combo of white paint over a tan interior and a tan convertible top.

The first-generation Ford Mustang was manufactured by Ford from March 1964 until 1973. The introduction of the Mustang created a new class of automobile known as the pony car. The Mustang’s styling, with its long hood and short deck, proved wildly popular and inspired a host of competition.

To be a '64-1/2 Mustang it has to be factory-equipped with a generator charging system, a 170ci six (U-code) engine, large horns mounted down on the frame behind the radiator, a center "off" heater fan switch, and a generator charge light, just to name the basics. These are features exclusive to Mustangs built between early March and July 31, 1964.

Mechanical Specs

The U-code engine 170 cubic inch engine was only six cylinder produced for 1964. This inline-six cylinder engine was actually originally used on the Ford Falcon, but was borrowed for the first half-generation of Mustang. It was replaced in early 1965 by a different inline six.

Ours looks original from the orange painted factory air cleaner and valve cover, carb, cast iron exhaust, generator, most other parts, and the manual transmission that have been rebuilt to perfection.

The engine bay is correctly detailed, painted, and very presentable too.

Interior

Standard equipment for the early 1965 Mustangs included front seat belts, a glove box light, and a padded dash board and this Mustang has a restored tan interior, almost every component inside this Mustang is refurbished or brand new. Correct seat covers are stretched over factory bucket seats, there are new carpets on the floor and beautifully finished door panels.

It has the tan convertible top which stows, Mustang steering wheel, Mustang logo radio system, factory dash and gauges, and a black manual shifter on the floor.

Exterior

The paint is a bright white with great trim, bodywork is great, beautiful chrome bumpers, stock grille insert with four bars surrounding the corral, and Mustang badges on the front fenders.

It rides on steel wheels with Mustang chrome hubcaps and thin wall white stripe tires to give it the correct period look and ride.

Conclusion

There are great iconic cars in the world and the 1964 ½ Mustang we have here at Skyway Classics is one of them. It was the first “Pony Car” and will always be a classic in the collector car world.
