1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe
Why This Car Is Special
The Chevrolet Monte Carlo is a two-door coupe marketed by Chevrolet from 1970 to 2007 model years encompassing six generations. Chevrolet marketed the Monte Carlo as a personal luxury car, with the last generation classified as a full-sized coupé.
In 1987, Chevrolet made a couple of performance versions of the Monte Carlo, the SS, and Aerocoupe. The Super Sport incorporated the "smoothed" rear bumper and tail lamps first introduced on the 1986 Luxury Sport and midway through the production year introduced the "lay-down" spoiler. The Aerocoupe made up 6,052 of the 39,251 total Super Sports that were produced that year.
The SS and the Aerocoupe with the slippery front nose became the Monte Carlo body style used in NASCAR until the car went out of production.
We have one of those rare 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coups here for sale at Skyway Classics today.
Features
1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aero Coupe
5.0 liter L69 V8 Chevrolet engine 4-barrel carburetor Black painted air cleaner Stock valve covers Factory exhaust manifolds Dual exhaust system Power steering and brakes 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission High-back buckets in maroon cloth with the matching back seat Red carpet A/C Power windows and locks Tilt steering column Sport steering wheel, Gauges Radio Painted in white More deeply sloped rear window Shorter trunk lid sporting a spoiler that lay more flat than previous Super Sports Stock factory alloy wheels Eagle GT+4 raised white letter radial tires
Mechanical
The only engine available was Chevy's small block 5.0 liter L69 V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor. Ours looks like the day it left the dealer with all the stock parts it came with including the black painted air cleaner, stock valve covers, factory exhaust manifolds, dual exhaust system, power steering and brakes, and it really runs well.
A 200R4 4-speed automatic transmission that feeds the 3.73 gears was standard equipment, so the Aero-coupe is great off the line and can still cruise, too.
Interior
A lot of features came standard on our Monte Carlo SS Aero-coupe including comfortable high-back buckets in maroon cloth with the matching back seat, red carpet, luxury features like A/C, power windows and locks, a tilt steering column, a sport steering wheel, gauges, air conditioning, radio, automatic trans with a factory console, that all looks great.
With all this equipment it truly makes this truly a top-of-the-line Chevy for that year.
Exterior
The Aero-coupe was created by modifications to the Super Sport body, including a more deeply sloped rear window and a shorter trunk lid sporting a spoiler that lay more flat than previous Super Sports.
The SS and the Aerocoupe with the slippery front nose became the Monte Carlo body style used in NASCAR until the car went out of production.
Ours ride on the stock factory alloy wheels with Eagle GT+4 raised white letter radial tires for the correct period look.
Conclusion
You do not have to race in NASCAR to have one of these rare Aero-coupes as we have a white 1987 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS Aerocoupe here at Skyway Classics today.
