1970 Ford Torino Cobra 429 SportsRoof
Why This Vehicle is Special
In 1970, one of Ford’s cars, the Torino, stood out, especially the high-performing Cobra 429 Cobra Sportsroof like the restored one we have here at Skyway Classics.
Even among that sea of Ford intermediates, Torino garnered enough attention that it was awarded the Motor Trend Car of the Year award for 1970.
Ours is a rare 1 of 1 per the Marti Report and has been carefully restored to its original glory with the 429 cubic inch Big Block Cobra Engine, C-6 3-speed automatic transmission, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Hood Tach, Magnum Wheels, and the black bucket seat interior.

Mechanical
Our Torino has the very potent 429 cubic inch Big Block Cobra Engine, C-6 3-speed automatic transmission, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Hood Tach, tubular headers, four barrel carb, aluminum intake, Dual exhaust, blue factory valve covers and air cleaner assembly with the correct 429 decals, and all sitting in the correct factory looking engine compartment.
It rides on Magnum Wheels with BF Goodrich Radial TA’s raised white letter tires with the power going to the 3.00 gears with Traction-Lok rear end.
Interior
Inside is more of that great vintage appearance. The restored black twin bucket seat interior has a great well-preserved look from the matching black door panels and rear matching seat, black carpet and Cobra floor mats, factory dash and gauges, automatic shifter on the column, polished spoke steering wheel, and radio cranking out the tunes.
It also has a great looking trunk with the correct trunk mat, spare tire, and wheel and has plenty of space for anything you might want to put in it.
Exterior
Ours is re-painted in a gorgeous yellow with the flat-black painted hood with the factory tach.
The front end was more angular and meaner than a Chevelle, and the rear has a long fastback profile. They recessed the rear window and trunk so that air could flow to the well-integrated spoiler and all this was done to make a good NASCAR contender,
The blackout rear panel complete this high contrast look against the bright yellow paint with the form-fitting chrome bumpers, correct badging and Cobra and 429 emblems, dual color-keyed sport mirrors, and full width taillights with a honeycomb effect.
Conclusion
This 1970 Ford Torino Cobra 429 Sportsroof that we have here at Skyway Classics was called by Ford’s advertising in the day, as the Torino Cobra 429 “a new top gun car that puts a lot of muscle in your driveway at a reasonable price.”
So is it today!
