1971 Buick Riviera GS 455
Why This Car Is Special
In 1971, Buick made a styling concept into a very distinctive model, the 1971 Buick Riviera GS 455.
This inspiration had come to light once before, on the well-received '63 Corvette Sting Ray, and Buick directed that the next Riviera be similarly styled, minus the controversial window split that was removed for the '64 Corvettes.
Thus the GS (or Gran Sport) was an optional package that added a rear stabilizer bar, extra horses, a specially tuned suspension system, and a distinct "Gran Sport" badging.
We have a real-deal 1971 Buick Riviera GS 455 here at Skyway Classics that is one of the best original ones on the planet!
It has 40k actual miles documented on the Virginia Title, 455 cubic inch V8 engine, that is all original including the matching drivetrain and we even have the original Protect-O-Plate too.
To say that this is a rare Buick is pretty is an understatement. It has yellow paint that is offset by the white interior, raided white letter tires, factory mag wheels, and Buick didn't skimp on amenities or creature comforts when creating this car.

It is backed by a Turbo-Hydro automatic transmission and has power steering, power brakes, air conditioning, red painted engine block, heads, valve covers, and intake, factory carb, factory air cleaner system, factory cast iron exhaust headers, dual exhaust system, and all sitting in a very clean and factory original looking engine compartment.

The odometer is showing 40k miles and even the trunk is in good order with the full size spare tire and wheel.
Exterior
The 1971 Buick Riviera we have is painted in a great shade of yellow that showcases one of the Buick Riviera's best qualities, its distinctive 'boat tail' styling, which always attracted attention.
It also had sharply tapered front and back body shapes, as well as its long flowing side view with a rear that resembled the bottom of a boat. Between the four circular headlamps is a grille made of thin horizontal bars that oozed a sporty vibe. On the left side of the grille was a huge stylized "R" insignia.
The visual alterations on the factory GS model are plenty obvious including the badges on the front quarters and on the trunk lid and it also has chrome bumpers and rides on Grabber General Raised White Letter tires with Buick factory Riviera five-spoke mag wheels.
