1963 Ford Thunderbird Convertible "Grand National Winner 2006 AAC First Prize!"

Why This Car Is Special

You don't come across the early 60s Thunderbirds very often, much less a complete nut & bolt restored 1963 Ford Thunderbird like the one we have here at Skyway Classics, in as nice of a color combination as this example with the gold paint and white top, let alone it being a real M-Code 390 cubic inch engine with the Tri-Power carbs that is believed to be the original motor sitting an all original looking engine bay.

This Thunderbird was the Grand National Winner at the 2006 Antique Automobile Club Of America AC First Prize so you can imagine how nice it really is!

Mechanical

Ford upped the ante of performance in 1963 and what truly made the Thunderbird stand out was the addition of the 390-cubic inch V-8 with three Holley two-barrel carburetors and nicknamed “M-code” due to the M designation in its chassis number, which signified this incredible tri-power unit, and made a whopping 340 horsepower.

Along with the engine dress-up kit with the chrome valve covers and polished tri-power air cleaner, the M-Code features a larger cam, special heads and larger dual exhaust.

It runs smooth and sounds great and the power flows back through a Cruiseomatic automatic transmission with a 3:10 set of gears to the rear wheels mounted on leaf springs with coil springs and a sway bar up that offers nice handling and ride with power brakes providing the stopping power.

The thin white wall tires with factory steel wheels and full center spin hub caps complete the look.

Interior

Our Thunderbird comes with the totally stock looking new gold matching interior that was outfitted with a number of desirable options, including power windows, factory air conditioning, the “space age” influenced instrument pod in front of the operator, remote sideview mirror, factory Thunderbird-labelled AM/FM pushbutton radio, tissue dispenser, distinctive center console and an inviting interior layout that instantly reminds you that this is a special car.

The center console provides storage, an armrest and looks fantastic. Bucket seats up front and a bench in the back keep you and your passengers comfortable.

Exterior

This Thunderbird M-Code is finished in I code Champagne over #58 gold interior with the white vinyl top for a stunning color combination.

This third generation Thunderbird was known for the bullet-like appearance, great lines, beautiful fins of the '50s, with the smoother, cleaner lines that many consider it to be the best-looking Thunderbird ever.

Ours looks almost completely factory original and looks like a rocket from the side with its nose tapering down from the hood and up from the bottom to form the tip, and the upper edge of the fenders and door trimmed in chrome makes it look like its flying through the air.

A big chrome bumper wraps up around the edges of quad headlights and grill and it has a hood mean looking scoop. The fins on the rear make and the two round taillights look similar to airplane jet afterburners to complete the Ford design statement.

Conclusion

Don't miss out on this complete nut & bolt restored 1963 Ford Thunderbird that we have here at Skyway Classics. Our 1963 Ford Thunderbird conveys the quintessential space age designs of that early 60's design era and are forever considered one-of-a-kind cars.
