C1500
1973 Chevrolet C1500 Sierra Grande
C/K is a series of trucks that was manufactured by General Motors from the 1960 to 2002 model years. Marketed by both the Chevrolet and GMC divisions, the C/K series encompassed a wide range of vehicles.
The third-generation C/K was introduced for the 1973 model year. Designated the "Rounded Line" generation by General Motors, the C/K grew in size inside and out.
We have an original 1973 GMC C1500 Sierra Grande pickup here at Skyway Classics that is truly a vintage pickup with big block power for quite a good price.
Mechanical
When you look under the hood, the power comes from a four-barrel-equipped 454 cubic inch big-block Chevrolet V8 engine mated to a Turbo-Hydramatic 3-speed automatic transmission.
It looks like it has been driven and all the factory parts such as the orange painted valve covers, engine block, and intake, correct factory black air cleaner assembly, Rochester four-barrel carb, factory cast iron exhaust headers, power steering, and power brakes.
The A/C blows cold and this truck runs very nicely. Single exhaust exit the rear and sound great when you get into the throttle.
Interior
The interior presents as well as the outside as the Sierra Grande was the highest trim level in the GMC lineup, and even without options included nice comfort and convenience features like color-keyed carpeting, full door trim with map pockets and a headliner with insulation.
Ours has the black bench seat features full foam padding, factory dash with all the gauges and equipment is functional, down to the original AM radio and the air conditioning that blows cold.
You get woodgrain on the deluxe door panels and the gauge cluster, vinyl floor liner, factory two-spoke steering wheel, and factory seatbelts.
Exterior
While relatively straight-lined and boxy in appearance, leading to their "Square-body" nickname, the chassis was an all-new design with it receiving a leaf-spring rear suspension.
Ours is painted in Orange/Red and white two-tone paint scheme that gives the truck an upscale look and breaks up the two paint colors perfectly. It is a long bed with the inside lined in black to protect it, has dual towing mirrors, and rides on factory steel wheels with GMC factory chrome hubcaps and thin white sidewall tires.
Conclusion
These GMC C1500 trucks, like the one we have here at Skyway Classics, are very hot right now and this one is sure to move quick. Great options, a big block 454 engine and transmission combination and desirable color combination make this truck a great addition to anyone's garage or a great work truck.
