1965 Red GTO Convertible

Why This Car Is Special

The Pontiac GTO is an automobile that was built by American company Pontiac in generations from 1964 to 1974 model years. The first generation GTO was a muscle car of the 1960s and 1970s era, and is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models.

For 1965 model years, the GTO was an optional package on the intermediate-sized Pontiac (VIN 237). The red 1965 GTO is a real-deal GTO Convertible we have at Skyway Classics that comes with the original metal Protect-O-Plate , PHS Documentation, and other paperwork.

Mechanical Specs

The 389 cubic inch engine was the base powerplant in these 1965 GTO's but ours has been upgraded to a YC Code 455 cubic inch engine that was rated at 325 horsepower with more torque than the original engines. Sitting on top of ours is the iconic “Three-Duce” Tri-Power carb setup that the GTO is known for!

The 1965 engine received revised cylinder heads with re-cored intake passages and high-rise intake manifolds and those carbs to improve breathing and they improved the horsepower rating to 360.

Ours was originally the 389 cubic inch V8 engine with the 4-barrel carb but at some point the engine was switched as well as the carbs to the more desirable Tri-Power.

It looks close to what it did as it left the factory back then with the correct chrome air cleaners, chrome valve covers, PS, PB, and most other stock Pontiac appointments sitting in a very clean painted, and detailed engine compartment.

One look at the underside of our GTO and you see the restoration of the frame and all running components too. It rides on Pontiac factory Rallye wheels and blackwall tires with a rumbling exhaust note from the dual exhaust.

Interior

The restored interior has been completely redone in factory correct black vinyl on the twin front buckets, rear matching seat, door panels, with the dash having the great wood paneling as well as the optional Rally Gauge cluster and tachometer, dash pad, Push-Button Radio, and seatbelts.

It has power steering, power brakes, wood sport Pontiac GTO steering wheel, aftermarket automatic shifter setting in the optional Pontiac chrome console, new carpeting and red floor mats too.

Exterior

Our GTO is immaculate and the pictures will show that but you will see what we mean when you come see it. It has a great red paint job on the body that showcases Pontiac's characteristic vertically stacked quad headlights, black convertible top, hood scoop, egg-crate grille, great body lines, and the fantastic trim and rubber.

Conclusion

This documented and restored real-deal 1965 Pontiac GTO we have for sale at Skyway Classics is the right GTO for you very serious collectors. Buy this one in confidence as it is one of the best you will ever see as it has been beautifully restored and is just like it rolled off the showroom floor.
