We have a very rare 1936 Chevy Cabriolet 4 Door here at Skyway Classics that belonged to U.S. Ambassador to Germany William E. Dodd. It is an extraordinarily rare Chevrolet, to the owner's knowledge there were only 2 produced with the other still in Europe.
The car was owned by the US ambassador to Germany William E. Dodd. Dodd served as ambassador to Germany from 1933-1937. He was sent to Germany to try to 'calm' Adolf Hitler down but resigned once he realized the Nazis were an increasing threat. Rumors are that Adolf Hitler rode in this car.
This steel bodied 1936 Chevrolet is a restored Chevrolet that commands attention everywhere you go. It has the right kind of originality that makes it perfect for a show car.

It is powered by the number's matching professionally rebuilt 207ci straight 6cyl and paired with the 3-speed manual transmission.
For 1936, the Standard Six received a wide range of improvements with an increase of compression ratio from 5.6:1 to 6:1, the standard 206.8 cu in engine now produced 79 horsepower at 3,200 rpm and 156 lb⋅ft of torque.
Our 36 was restored with an eye toward authenticity and factory correct look and parts with the stock carburetor, manifold, correct air cleaner assembly, in a clean and detailed engine compartment.
The manual gearbox shifts nicely and the car tracks straight. The undercarriage, while original, remains in good order. Beautiful maroon spoke wheels with wide whitewalls complete the look.
Interior
Inside you can find a stunning saddle vinyl interior which looks plush for its day. The rear seat looks the same and it has a grab bar to hold onto while riding or standing during a parade.
It has the same material on the door panels, nice carpets, and three-spoke steering wheel and when you sit in the driver's seat you will gaze at the dashboard and factory correct gauges that look and function beautifully as it has all the correct and functioning switches, lights, and door handles.
The 36 comes with a tan convertible top for the sunny days when you do prefer to feel some wind in your hair.
Exterior
This car was shipped to Germany and lengthened 12 inches by a stage coach factory and German coachbuilder. This Chevrolet is an older professional restoration that has spent it's life in a garage, due to lack of use the vehicle has just been gone through once again and it has been restored to factory specs.
The maroon paint looks very nice paired with the light colored top and wide white wall tires, with the fit and finish being great, excellent body lines, great chrome and grille, hood ornament, and side mirrors, and all compliment the classy paint scheme.
