1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Tribute
Why This Car Is Special
In late 1969 Ford offered up a special-edition Mustang to dealers in the Kansas City area. These 1970 Mach 1-based cars Mustangs were named “Twister Special.” In all, only 96 of the Mustangs were ever produced.
The 1970 Twister Special Mustang featured Grabber Orange exterior paint along with custom “Twister Special” graphics (installed at Ford's assembly plant in Kansas City). Originally all Twister Special Mustangs were to feature 428 Super Cobra Jet engines beneath their hoods. Unfortunately, a shortage of these engines resulted in half of the cars receiving 351 engines instead with buyers having the option of selecting from either a manual or automatic transmission.
To this day, Twister Specials continue to fetch high price particularly well-restored models recently sold for $140,000 in a Mecum auction in Kansas City.
We have a viable alternative here at Skyway Classics, a gorgeous 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Tribute with its 351 cubic inch 4V V8 engine and 4-speed transmission that has been recently restored. Features
