1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Tribute

Why This Car Is Special

In late 1969 Ford offered up a special-edition Mustang to dealers in the Kansas City area. These 1970 Mach 1-based cars Mustangs were named “Twister Special.” In all, only 96 of the Mustangs were ever produced.

The 1970 Twister Special Mustang featured Grabber Orange exterior paint along with custom “Twister Special” graphics (installed at Ford's assembly plant in Kansas City). Originally all Twister Special Mustangs were to feature 428 Super Cobra Jet engines beneath their hoods. Unfortunately, a shortage of these engines resulted in half of the cars receiving 351 engines instead with buyers having the option of selecting from either a manual or automatic transmission.

To this day, Twister Specials continue to fetch high price particularly well-restored models recently sold for $140,000 in a Mecum auction in Kansas City.

We have a viable alternative here at Skyway Classics, a gorgeous 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 Twister Tribute with its 351 cubic inch 4V V8 engine and 4-speed transmission that has been recently restored. Features

Mechanics

Our Twister Special Tribute has a rebuilt and stunning looking 351 cubic inch 4V engine sitting in the equally stunning engine compartment. The engine, intake, and valve covers that has been painted in the correct Ford Racing Blue paint, chrome air cleaner that has 351-4V Decals on top over the carb, power steering and brakes, with the blue performance spark plug wires and updated distributor providing the sparks, and exhaust routed out the factory cast iron exhaust headers to the dual exhaust out the rear.

It starts easily and makes great torque, a muscle car trademark, and you'll find that the engine loves to rev and never seems to run out of breath with the automatic transmission that makes for performance cruising.

It rides on factory style chrome Magnum 500 wheels and fat BF Goodrich T/A radials raised white letter tires.

Interior

The restored 1970 Mustang interior was both comfortable and sporty from the factory, so it looks as it did back then with the black high-back buckets and automatic shifter.

It also has matching rear seat, matching door panels with woodgrain trim, Black carpets and floor mats, Ford's twin-cockpit design puts a quartet of gauges ahead of the driver all wrapped in woodgrain, a Passenger analog clock, wood steering wheel, accessory gauges underneath, radio, and a panel that has been signed by Carroll Shelby and Richard Petty underneath too.

Exterior

Our Mustang looks great in its Grabber Orange paint, and being a one-year only design, has the fabulous look that includes the fastback profile, add in the blacked-out hood scoop, hood pins, black Mach 1 rocker panels, and black Ford Mach black striping package and Twister Special decals on its flanks, this is a terrific muscle machine.

Our Mach 1 wears the hood scoop, chin spoiler, rear window slats, and black tail spoiler as well and emits a rumble from the V8. It will surely earn praise and trophies at car shows as well.
