1999 Porsche Carrera Type 966
Why This Car Is Special
The performance looking 1999 Porsche 996 that we have here at Skyway Classics is the internal designation for the 911 model manufactured by Porsche from 1997 until 2006. The 996 had little in common with its predecessor, with the first all new chassis platform since the original 911 and a new water-cooled engine.
At its debut, the 996 featured the most significant change from the classic 911 series, a water-cooled engine replacing the previously air-cooled engine.
Other major changes include a completely new platform having a sleeker body with a more raked windshield, and a re-designed interior along with new headlamps, and has been fine-tuned to perfection, with an excellent suspension, motor and brakes.
Features
1999 Porsche Carrera Type 966
Horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine 296 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque 6-speed manual transmission L&N Engineering new clutch New water pump Power steering Power brakes Dual exhaust tips Carrera badging Aluminum alloy wheels Carbon Fiber wrap on hood, roof, trunk Sleek body with a more raked windshield Rear spoiler Re-designed twin buck seat interior only 2 years old Air Conditioning Stereo radio system Black performance wheels Black sidewall performance tires Yellow brake calipers Racy ground effects
Mechanical
The horizontally opposed 6-cylinder engine produces a staggering 296 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque! It is high revving with a redline at 7,300 RPM and is 11.3:1 compression. It is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and of course is rear wheel drive. Weighing in at almost exactly 3,000 lbs. this car has more than enough power to get it moving quickly! 4-piston calipers on all 4 wheels provide more than enough stopping power.
The improved suspension is derived from the 928, and it's designed to protect the car from oversteer while cornering at the limit. Huge brake rotors and GT1-inspired monobloc yellow calipers make slowing down even easier than accelerating. It will accelerate from zero-to-60 in under five seconds with a top speed of 172 mph and shows less than 69k miles on the speedometer.
Interior
The custom interior cradles you with big bolsters holding you firmly in place. Designed to comfort you and keep you in control, no matter how close to out of control you and your Porsche are. But on top of the race inspired bucket seats, you are surrounding by opulence. Every power option you could want is at your fingertips.
We love to row the gears the old-fashioned way with the 6-speed manual transmission mounted in the factory console. It also has the great Porsche dash that has been modified with the gold overlays and still contain all the factory gauges, switches, and controls as well as the stereo system.
Exterior
The new design had to keep trademark 911 themes while becoming entirely different. The car's profile, wheel arches and C-pillars hark back to the original design while creating a fresh new appearance.
But make no mistake, this 911 back then was the most advanced car Porsche has ever built, and it's one of the best sports cars in the world.
The 1999 911 we have here is wider than the previous ones from the factory to compensate for the widened track. It's longer than the previous car too, allowing for a more steeply raked windshield and better aerodynamics; the 911 now slips through the wind tunnel with a .30 coefficient of drag. The extra length also allows for a longer wheelbase that improves handling and traction while allowing engineers to design a more spacious interior.
This car has all the classic Porsche features. One glance and there is no mistaking it for anything else. Dual exhaust tips exit the rear below a power spoiler and Carrera badging with blacked out aluminum alloy wheels, Carbon Fiber hood, roof, trunk, and flow of the car very well, as do the sporty curvy side mirrors, yellow brake calipers, and lower ground effects.
Conclusion
The 1999 Porsche 996 that we have here at Skyway Classics is special because of the power and the ability to put that power to the ground. The power to weight ratio on this car makes it stand out from the crowd.
Our Porsche is ready to be a daily driver or a weekend warrior. It has power, handling, and styling to spare.
