1969 Plymouth Road Runner

Why This Car Is Special

The Plymouth Road Runner is a mid-size car with a focus on performance built by Plymouth in the United States between 1968 and 1980. Plymouth developed the Road Runner to market a lower priced, basic trim model to its upscale GTX.

We have a sharp orange 1969 Plymouth Road Runner that is very original here at Skyway Classics that was a purpose-built muscle car, it was meant to go fast while retaining a spartan look and interior, meaning less weight and frills.

This is a correct RM21 H code 383 car, which means a lot today as a lot of Satellite clones pretend to be a Road Runners. Not the case here, this is a real one!

Mechanical

It is powered by the Plymouth performance built, what we believe to be, numbers matching 383 cubic inch V8 engine with a four-speed manual transmission shifted by the Hurst shifter.

The 383 is painted in Hemi Orange, with the factory stock intake, valve covers, heads and block painted in Hemi orange, with a four-barrel carb, performance plug wires, “Coyote Duster functional Ram Air cleaner assembly with the correct decals, long tube headers and dual exhaust, power brakes, and all sitting in a very nice, original, clean, painted, and detailed engine compartment.

The 383 cubic inch engine was standard with the 426 Hemi the only option available for the Road Runner until mid-year production.

Interior

The black vinyl factory looking interior has bucket seats, three-spoke sports Road Runner steering wheel with the Beep-Beep Roadrunner horn, the original gauge package and auxiliary tach and mounted gauges below the dash, 4-speed chrome Hurst shifter with the white cue-ball knob on it, black carpet, matching rear seat, great door panels, Road Runner emblems, and a stereo radio system.

It has a lot of originality to this interior and it looks as it did back when it was new.

Exterior

The bright orange paint scheme with the black hood on the Road Runner scoops really pops and the muscle car lines look super as well as the front and rear chrome bumpers, glass, trim, and it has the right factory stance too with the raised white letter BF Goodrich Radial Ta's it rides on mounted on the black and chrome factory styled steel wheels and chrome lug nuts.

It has the famous Road Runner cartoon graphics that Plymouth paid $50,000 to Warner Bros.-Seven Arts to use the Road Runner name and likeness from their Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner cartoons (as well as a "beep, beep" horn, which Plymouth paid $10,000 to develop) that our car still has.
