1964 Plymouth Fury Hardtop

Why This Car Is Special

We have a 1964 Plymouth Sport Fury here at Skyway Classics that was professionally restored in 2018 and painted to as close as they could get to the original color, Chestnut Brown. It has a much modified 451 cubic inch stroker engine mated to an 883 4-Speed manual transmission and pushing the power to the ground through a sure grip rear end with 3:23 gears.

Mechanical

When you open the hood, you will see the big block MOPAR that powers our 1964 Fury is a 451 cubic inch V8 engine shifted by an 883 4-Speed manual transmission and pushing the power to the ground through a sure grip rear end with 3:23 gears.

The original 361 CID V8 was replaced with a 400 cubic inch block with a no expense spared build that included a steel 440 cubic inch crankshaft, 440 LY rods, Keith Black hypereutectic pistons, 440 heads fitted with bronze valve guides, hardened seats, 2.19 intake valves, 1.81 exhaust valves, PRW roller rockers arms, Hughes cam, lifer and springs, Mopar electronic distributer, MSD 6AL ignition, Headman ceramic coated headers, and Magna flow mufflers, 2.5" exhaust, and a Holley Sniper Fuel Injection unit and hand controller.

The 451, which is made by dropping a 440 crank into a 400 block, has almost perfect design parameters. The 400 block, with a deck height of 9.980 is perfect for a 3.75 stroke since a 1.80 rod ratio yields a nice light compression height of 1.355. This means that 451 has a typical piston weight of around 550 grams instead of 800+ for the 440. The lower deck height of the 400 means less block weight makes them lighter and more rigid. A complete 451 can weigh as much as 40 pounds less than a similar 440 due to these differences.

It also has a complete Offenhauser 360 dual quad intake with dual Edelbrock 650cfm Carbs and air cleaner if you want to go back to the nostalgic look.

You know these Fury's are rare, and ours looks like the old Super Stockers as it has the right look and stance rolling on chrome Plymouth 5ht. It also means the engine fits into tight engine compartments easier. It also means that the pushrods are shorter which in -spoke mag wheels and raised white letter BF Goodrich T/A radials tires.

This car comes with the original window sticker, dealer sales, order, additional documents, and the title showing just over 38k miles on it.

Additional features include an A/C system that is professionally ran through the fender and not the firewall from Nostalgic Air, disc brakes in the front, and a posi traction rear end!

Interior

The interior is a sharp two-toned tan and brown that matched the paint theme great as the seat coverings and carpet were purchased new from Legendary interiors, while the door panels, headliner, and dash pad are original

It has the matching rear seat, big color matched factory steering wheel, factory dash and gauge, Holley Sniper computer controller, chrome 4-speed shifter and white cue ball, Vintage air conditioning, carpet, floor mats and matching door panels.

Exterior

This '64 was professionally repainted in 2018 to as close as they could get to the original color, Chestnut Brown. The paint flows well over the stock great fitting body panels and fenders with the chrome badging, chrome bumpers, and the chrome side accents.

The Chestnut colored Fury looks stately and different from most other Plymouths of the era and the bodywork is in excellent condition with straight-edge styling, great brightwork.

Conclusion

This restored 1964 Plymouth Fury Convertible we have at Skyway Classics has the right looks and can back them up with the 451 cubic inch V8 engine shifted by the 883 4-Speed manual transmission and Posi rear end with 3:23 gears.
