1957 Red Ford Thunderbird
Why This Car Is Special
The Ford Thunderbird is a rear wheel drive automobile which was manufactured by Ford in the United States over eleven model generations from 1955 through 2005. The Thunderbird created a market niche that eventually became known as the personal luxury car.
The 1957 Ford Thunderbird we have at Skyway Classics is in gorgeous red color with the color matching red interior, white convertible top, and the Porthole hardtop and it has just a tad over 56,000 miles that is said to be the original miles.
Mechanical Specs
Ours has what looks like an all original engine compartment with all the factory correct hoses, clamps, windshield washer bag, power brakes, accessories as well as the factory correct 312 cu in V8 with 4-barrell carb which had become the Thunderbird's standard engine, and now produced 245 horsepower in 1957.
It has the dress up kit with the correct finned valve the Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission that shifts perfect. The engine also has a chrome air cleaner gets fresh air through the fully functional hood scoop.
The exhaust system is good and the chassis is largely original, not detailed for show but great as a driver, and wears a set of stock steel wheels with wire wheel hubcaps, and wide whitewall tires.
Interior
You will like the Pleated Raven Vinyl and Pleated Colonial Vinyl interior with the bench seat, door panels that match the dash, red center console, gauges are in original condition and look great in the machine turned dash,
The 57 still has the original Town & Country radio and a MP3 and aftermarket radio as well, along with correct red carpets and seat belts.
Exterior
The Thunderbird was revised for 1957 with a reshaped front bumper, a larger grille and tailfins, and larger tail lamps. The bodywork, fit and finish are nicely done. The Thunderbird's famous "porthole" hardtop comes with the car as well as the bright white convertible top.
The graceful fins and body lines has straight panels and the taillight end caps round out the rear end of the car. Other details like the Thunderbird badges, rear bumper with integrated exhaust outlets, and the fender skirts are all great.
The instrument panel was heavily re-styled with round gauges in a single pod, and the rear of the car was lengthened, allowing the spare tire to be positioned back in the trunk.
Our trunk is outfitted with all the factory mats, jack, and spare tire and wheel and makes a great presentation.
Conclusion
The Red 1957 Ford Thunderbird we have at Skyway Classics is fun to drive anywhere and enjoy the iconic look as well as the looks you will get just on that "Porthole” top.
